Slow Pot Appeal
Slow cook pots produce hearty, warming, nutritious meals at minimal cost. It is an invention that is widely used by busy people but not by the generation that could perhaps benefit the most from it -the elderly. Our mission is to promote slow-pot cooking for the lonely, the old and the cold.
There is a large number of older people out there who cannot afford to keep warm, the over 60s making up the majority of people living in fuel poverty. And they don't eat enough good stuff, either, to generate warmth from within. Some have found it difficult during cold weather to go into a cold kitchen to cook. Hence we decided to launch the Slow Pot Appeal to introduce to the delights of slow cooking to the people who would find them useful.
Age UK (IW) on the Isle of Wight has kindly agreed to accept cheques for the Slow Pot Appeal. We are actively seeking carers, community nurses and practice nurses to make nominations of people who could benefit from a slow pot cooker.
I have written a Slow Pot Recipe booklet which is available from Age UK 147 High Street, Newport, Isle of Wight PO30 1TY for a minimum donation of £2 for Age Uk (IW), along with a 2nd class stamp. All donations go to Age UK (IW). Get your updated copy early, as they sell out very quickly. Recipients of the slow pots will receive a copy of the recipe booklet with my compliments.
